Fruits of research must flow from lab to community: Dr Kokate

Belagavi: Scientific writing is a perfect amalgamation of art and science which the young scientists must develop, said Dr. Chandrakant Kokate, Vice Chancellor of KLE University. He was speaking at the inauguration the two-day International Workshop on Continuing Medical Education on scientific manuscript writing at the KLE-USM medical college.

Commitment, sustained efforts, appetite for acquiring newer knowledge and vision for finding truth are the qualities of good researchers. Young scientists across the country are involved in research activities, produce good results, but unfortunately many of them are unable to present and publish in international journals. International scientific community is recognizing and appreciating high volume of quality research being conducted at Indian Universities,” Dr Kokate stated and called on budding scientists to imbibe simple, effective and convincing writing skills with facts and figures.

The success of research depends on finding the place in high impact factor international journals, he said while stressing the need for developing and registering of patents. The present atmosphere for research in the country is encouraging and many organizations are offering grants for research and asked them to utilize funds for their research. Dr. Kokate also cautioned the participants not to involve in plagiarism and stay away from short cuts in research. The fruits of the research must flow from laboratory to the community for the common good of the community, he said.

Young researchers must develop habit of raising scientific questions and quest for knowledge must continue, said USM-KLE Director Dr. H B Rajsekhar. KLE Society has given excellent facilities, infrastructure, and trained human resources for conducting world class research in the institution. Dr. Rajsekhar congratulated the medical fraternity for publishing over 80 scientific papers in the last one and half year. He also informed the University of Malaysia and KLE will be jointly carrying forward further research in the field of health sciences.

Dr. Gan Siew Hua, faculty from Malaysia and Dr. Mohammed Suhaimi, Deputy Dean USM-KLE conducted scientific sessions. Dr. Sadanand Patil welcomed and introduced the guests Dr. Madhura proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Ashok Pangi and Heads of the Departments and over 100 young researchers are taking part in two days’ workshop.
